Bloomsburg Baseball Falls To Kutztown

NEWPORT NEWS, VA- The Bloomsburg University baseball team fell to Kutztown 12-2 at the Apprentice School Builder Invitational on Saturday night.
Bloomsburg (2-2) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Preston Hitchcock (Laceyville/ Wyalusing Valley) scored on a pass ball. After holding the Golden Bears to a scoreless first inning, Kutztown responded with a run in the bottom of the second and six in the third inning. Scott Kacelowicz hit a two-run blast and Chad Lightcap hit a three-run homer in the inning.
Kutztown would continue to build on their lead, adding three runs in the fifth and two in the eighth. The Huskies would add another run on a sacrifice fly by Paul Eckley (Port Matilda/ State College) in the seventh inning but that was all the scoring the Huskies would get against a combination of five Kutztown pitchers.
Hitchcock went 2-4 to lead the Huskies, while Matt Robinson (York/ Red Lion) pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless relief. Lightcap finished 5-5 with six RBI's and two runs scored to lead Kutztown.
Bloomsburg will visit Columbia Union on March 3.
